Adding a successful CDEX 07 together, China Dive Exhibition
(CDEX) has been through 3 years already. Its relentless efforts
to strive the Chinese dive market have produced closer industry
bindings and as well as greater awareness among the public.
The 4-month marketing campaign of CDEX 07 has also created overwhelming
success in popularizing "diving as a life style".
A number of on-site activities designed to enhance the communication
between exhibitors and visitors is the witness to a growing
enthusiasm.
While carrying on with the existing attractions, CDEX 2008 pledges
to work more closely with industry stakeholders beginning as
early as the pre-show promotion.

dive manufacturing industry, CDEX has written a report on the
industry. It will continue to write reports in an annual basis

Engineering Recalls Swivels for Scuba Diving Masks Due to Drowning

Hazard:
The swivel, which is attached to a diving mask, could separate
while diving. This will result in a sudden loss of the divers
air supply, causing the diver to engage in emergency ascent.
This poses a risk of decompression sickness due to rapid ascent
or drowning.
Incidents/Injuries:
M&J Engineering has received one report of swivels separating
from the masks while diving. No injuries have been reported.
Description:
This recall involves all SW-3000 2nd stage 360-degree swivels
for scuba diving masks manufactured between January 2004 and
February 2005. The swivel has the date stamped on its body,
below the patent number. Swivels that are already repaired have
an arrow stamped on the top right corner of the swivel body.
Sold
at: Diving retail stores nationwide between January 2004 and
February 2005 for about $60.

Remedy:
Consumers should immediately stop using the scuba diving masks
with the swivel attached and contact M&J Engineering to
receive a free repair.

The plastic tubes used to inflate the paddle float could break
and deflate, posing a drowning hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries:
NRS has received five reports of paddle floats breaking and
deflating. No injuries have been reported.
Description:
The NRS Sea Kayak Paddle Float is an inflatable device that
is attached to one side of the paddle to help the kayaker re-enter
the kayak in open water. The paddle float is yellow and black
and measures 15" wide by 28" long, before inflation.
The NRS logo is on one side. This recall involves those paddle
floats with inflation tubes that are clear or translucent. Paddle
floats with black tubes are not included.
Sold
at: NRS stores nationwide and NRS catalogs from July 2006 through
March 2007 for about $40.

Remedy:
Consumers should stop using the paddle floats immediately and
contact NRS to determine if you have one of the recalled models.
NRS will provide a free replacement paddle float for consumers
with recalled units.

Innovative Scuba Concepts Recalls Diving Regulator Components
Due to Drowning Hazard
Name of product: Swivel for a Scuba Regulator

Hazard: The swivel, which is attached to a diving regulator,
could separate while diving. This will result in a complete
and sudden loss of the divers air supply, causing the
diver to engage in emergency ascent procedures. This poses a
risk of decompression sickness due to rapid ascent, and air
embolism or drowning if the diver panics or the emergency ascent
procedure fails.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report where the
swivel separated during a dive and caused the diver to ascend
using the buddy breathing technique. No injury was reported.
Description: The recall involves the HO110 Swivels sold as an
aftermarket regulator component. There are no markings such
as a date or production code embossed on the unit. Contact Innovative
Scuba Concepts for information on where the recalled units were
sold.
Sold at: Specialty retail dive stores nationwide from January
2006 through March 2007 for about $40. They also could have
been installed by a dive shop regulator technician.
Manufactured in: Taiwan
Remedy: Consumers should stop using regulators with the swivel
attached and contact the dive store where purchased for a refund.

Pelagic Recalls Digital Dive Computers Due to Decompression

Name of product: Oceanic and AERIS Digital Dive Computers

Hazard:
When performing a switch from one gas to another during a dive,
the dive computer’s display will lock up and not return to the
main dive screen that displays dive times. This can cause divers
to enter decompression unknowingly or the diver could ascend
prematurely, resulting in decompression sickness.
Incidents/Injuries:
Pelagic has received a report of two dive computers malfunctioning.
No injuries have been reported.
Description
and Models: The recall involves Oceanic-brand ATOM 2.0 dive
computers with serial numbers 1 through 2,079 (Revisions 2E,
3A, and 3B) and AERIS-brand EPIC dive computers with serial
numbers 1 through 712 (Revision 1A), which can be accessed and
viewed on the computer’s display. Also, the serial number and
date of manufacture are printed on the bottom of the unit (Oceanic
ATOM 2.0 from August 23 to November 23, 2006, and AERIS EPIC
from October 18 to November 14, 2006). This recall does not
include any other Oceanic or AERIS brand dive computers.
Sold
at: Authorized Oceanic dealers sold ATOM 2.0 dive computers
nationwide from August 2006 through February 2007. Authorized
AERIS dealers sold EPIC dive computers nationwide from October
2006 through February 2007. Both computers sold for between
$670 and $950.

in: United States
Remedy:
Consumers should stop using the recalled dive computers and
take them to an authorized Oceanic or AERIS dealer to get a
free software upgrade.
