United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven
independent emirates, each with its own ruler. The federal
government exists as a constitutional republic, headed
by a president and council of ministers. Islamic ideals
and beliefs provide the conservative foundation of the
country's customs, laws and practices. The UAE is a
modern, developed country, and tourist facilities are
widely available. The capital is Abu Dhabi.
Slipping beneath the waves and gently descending into
the world of the Arabian Gulf is a must-be-done experience
for the veteran diver as much as for the newbie.
Diving in these waters puts you smack in the middle
of a rich marine world. Turkey fish and angelfish, puffers
and morays, even turtles and sting rays. The warm, relatively
clear and safe waters off the UAE are ideal for learning
to dive as well as offering interesting adventures to
more experienced divers - you might even spot an old
wreck! In Dubai, on the Emirates' east coast and elsewhere
there are a number of diving clubs that provide both
training and organised diving.
