The
Bahamas. So close, yet so far away. The Bahamas chain
is within a scant 50 miles from the coast of Florida, but in that 50 miles you cross into
another dimension. A time and place without worries, relaxing
atmosphere, friendly people, and lest we not forget, some
of the finest diving in the the world. Whether you favor
wrecks, reefs, drift diving, walls, blue holes, caves
and caverns, or diving with sharks and dolphins, it's
all right here.
And the visibility, how about an average of 100'+, and
200' not an uncommon occurance. Dive services range from
small personal 6-paks where you may be one of the few
on the boat, to large personal operations with multiple
boats where you will get a chance to meet and dive with
scuba enthusiasts from all over the world. Where will
you dive? The choices are yours to make.
You can choose an island with lots of activity and a bustling
nightlife, or how about an island where few other people
will be seen, and the afternoon activities include swinging
in your hammock and watching the sun fall from the edge
of the earth.

| Indonesia
is in the center of the Indo-Pacific bio-sphere, and is
the largest archipelago in the world. There are over 17,000
islands spread across 3,000 miles, and diving conditions
are exceptional. It is one of the richest and most diverse
marine habitats on the earth. The rich diversity of marine
fish also extends to an equally rich diversity of marine
corals (over 500 varieties). In addition to reefs, you
can experience fantastic wall diving, "flying"
drift dives, and many great wrecks.
What
about the marine life? How about shrimp to whalesharks,
squid to dolphins, sea horses to blue ribbon eels, scorpion
fish to turtles, manta rays to..... well you get the
picture, this place is loaded!!
While
the infrastructure in Indonesia to support diving is
still young, there are excellent dive centers, resorts
and liveaboards throughout the area.

Maldives
|
| |
|
The
Maldives are located about an hour's flight southwest
of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. This country is made
up of about 26 atoll
formations,
comprising over a thousand islands and scattered like
gem stones in a north to south direction. With a population
of just 238,500, only 199 islands are inhabited and 75
have been set aside exclusively for tourist resorts.
Although
topside wildlife is limited, the underwater world is indescribably
beautiful. The Maldives are one of the most coral rich
regions of the world. Over three quarters of the world's
reef fish can be found in their waters. For scuba divers
the Maldives are simply heaven.
Diving in the Maldives can be accessed from land based
resorts which use day boats that take vacationers out
to the reefs, pinnacles, and channels that comprise the
Maldives atolls. For the more exotic Maldives diving,
you can experience the remote atolls from a live aboard
dive vessel.
The diving for experienced divers is excellent. There
are drop offs, overhangs, cuts, pinnacles, and wrecks
full of life. Aside from the pleuthra of reef fish, divers
will encounter turtles, moray eels, sharks, mantas, and
even whale sharks.

Palau
|
|
Located
between Guam, The Philippines and Papua New Guinea,
Palau is an archipelago which is more than 640km (400
miles) long. The jewels of Palau are its 200 Rock Islands,
densely forested limestone islets of varying sizes and
shapes.
Palau's
unique geography makes it a divers' mecca. Three major
ocean currents converge there, funneling a wide variety
of marine life: 700 corals and anemones, 1,500 kinds
of reef and pelagic fish, rare chambered nautilus and
giant tridacna clams that are commonly over four feet
long and weigh a quarter-ton.
Moreover, Palau Lagoon encloses dozens of World War
II shipwrecks, coral reefs, blue holes, giant undersea
tunnels, stalactite-filled caves and over 60 vertical
dropoffs.
Because of the diversity and density of the marine life
and the topography of the islands, Palau is regarded
as one of the best dive sites in the world.

The
coral reefs of the Red Sea stretch from southern
Sinai to the offshore area of the Deep South, which is
only reached by liveaboard. The coastline covers a distance
of more than 930 miles (1500 km).
Two coastal resort towns, Hurghada on the African mainland
and Sharm El Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula, are the main
dive destinations, but the most popular dive sites are
spread all over the region.
Among the hundreds of common fish species you will encounter
daily are clownfish, butterfly fish, angel fish, parrot
fish, lion fish, and turkey fish. You will often encounter
schools of barracuda, and even sharks. Occasionally you
can spot graceful manta rays too! The variety and amount
of life is truly remarkable. Now add a vast assortment
of colorful soft and hard corals and you have a diving
site that ranks as one of the best in the world.
You
will find an abundance of fish and organisms from tiny
polyps to the huge Napoleon wrasse. But Egypt is also
quite famous for the many interesting wrecks, particularly
at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba and in the Strait
of Tiran.
If you are interested in sharks you will have the opportunity
to encounter various species like the silky shark, gray
reef sharks, oceanic white tip and the manta ray along
with many others depending on the area you visit. Cruising
dolphins and friendly sea turtles are especially, but
not exclusively, found in the northern region. In the
southern regions you will even have an opportunity to
see the endangered Dugongs (Manatees).

Scuba
diving in Thailand has always been considered world-class.
If youve ever dreamed of swimming with a whale
shark, this is the place to do it. Not only is the land
diverse above water, but below as well with huge boulders
that create havens for both large & small fish.
Keep an eye out into the blue for schools of tuna and
other large pelagics cruising around. You will find
everything in this underwater paradise from large pelagics
to ribbon eels.
A major water sports center is the southern island of
Phuket in the Andaman Sea. The majority of diving destinations
close to Phuket are located in nearby Phangnga , where
hundreds of limestone islands rise up from the blue
waters. Also popular are the largely uninhabited Similan
Islands, recently listed among the world's ten most
beautiful spots for underwater scenery and the spectacular
Phi Phi Islands near Phuket.

Chuuk,
known to most divers as Truk, because of Truk Lagoon,
boasts a vast, shallow, beautiful lagoon, and is a Mecca
for wreck divers. Known to the world as the graveyard
of the Pacific, Truk Lagoon is the final resting place
of more than 70 WW II ships and hundreds of aircraft that
fell to the U.S. Forces during "Operation Hailstone".
Many of these wrecks rest upon the bottom with trucks,
jeeps, planes and equipment they were carrying still intact.
During the past 50+ years these huge artifacts of the
past have become home for a profusion of soft corals and
marine life.
Less dived and spectacular itself is the outer reef with
peaks, caves and dropoffs with hard and soft corals in
a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes. Here you can experience
hundreds of species of fishes and lots of palagics.
